Yamashita Egi Oh Q Live

As a result of extensive research undertaken by eging pioneer Yamashita, it has been identified that squid recognise temperature variations in the water. This has led Yamashita to develop a unique Egi Oh Q LIVE squid jig featuring a patented thermo-storage cloth called the ‘warm jacket’. The cloth reacts to light (any form of light; sunlight or artificial light) and will maintain its temperature for longer than traditional cloths. With the capacity to hold heat similar to natural fish the LIVE jigs are more successful in attracting squid interest since they can recognise temperature variations when hunting prey. The new material is called ‘Tactywarm’ which is weaved with a unique thread that is able to change light into heat. It can absorb light from sunlight to artificial light, changing it into thermo energy about 0.5 degree Celsius to 1 degree Celsius warmer in the water, depending on the conditions.

Yamashita also patented the nose design. It is the thinnest nose available on any of their jigs but does not compromise its strength. This gives it the advantage of minimising water resistance when hopped which gives the jig more action for less effort. The LIVE jerks a lot sharper when you lift the rod, generating a much better ‘walk the dog’ action.  Other features of Egi Oh Q Live include large, flat eyes with a glow edge, super fine spikes, Hyper Direct SUS eyelet to maintain jig strength and protect against breakage or leaks, a knife-edged sinker to reduce resistance in the water, and a strike body to make it easy to retrieve the jig. It also has a much longer casting distance than many other jigs.

Daiwa Emeraldas Nude

Squid Fishing

Daiwa Japans Number one premium squid jig range is now available in Australia. The new Emeraldas Nude models are truly unique and feature many design innovations that make it the most effective jig available on the market today.

The Emeraldas Nude is a visual and action jig, its unique lifelike pattern design and smooth body is designed to attract a squid by sight and action. Its smooth body design allows the lure to dart and slide effortlessly through the water, more realistic than any other jig.

The Nude is just not another jig it’s a complete eging system that incorporates accessories to broaden the horizons of this unique jig. Featuring attachment points that are designed to use in conjunction with the Agorig Sinker system and the EG-Snap , this allows for changes in sink speed, depth and angle. By attaching the Agorig sinker to the keel eye the jig will glide slowly at a 30-45 degree angle, but when attached to an EG-Snap the lure will sink rapidly at a 75 degree angle. This is ideal for deep water or fast current situations.

Features:

  • Ultra realistic 3D reflective eyes
  • Ultra sharp bump hook
  • Recycled Tin keel

Sephia EGIXILE Lures

The revolutionary Shimano Sephia Egixile squid jigs have been designed in 3 colour schemes to cover different environmental and light conditions – “natural” for clear water shallow water during the day light hours, “shrimp/prawn” when squid are being cautious and “Keimura” for deep water or lower light conditions.

The intuitive “Keimura” cloth is activated by UV light. UV light travels further in the water column than sunlight to give your jig more presence and glow where sunlight cannot reach.

South East Queensland has a great squid fishery and available to most shore and boat based anglers – simply cast your Sephia Egixile jig around areas that have a bit of weed and structure and slowly retrieve and twitch your lure – when you feel a slow heavy weight come on the to the rod you have a squid – they make great eating and fantastic bait for most species like Cod, Amberjack, Snapper, Trevally, Kingfish, Cobia and Billfish.

  • Hi, Just back from York Peninsula in SA where I am now hooked on squid. Are there squid around the rocky headlands say Coolum, Noosa or Mudjimba / Maroochy River mouth?

    • Welcome back! They can be found around the Sunshine Coast for most of the year, we have a crew that travels up there during the off season back in Brisbane. I would give the Lighthouse a shot around Maroochy for best results. Cheers, Mark
